The U.S. Navy’s Commander Joint Strike Fighter Wing has announced that the last F-35C Lightning II  fighter jet belonging to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 101 “Grim Reapers” left its home base at Eglin, AFB in Fla. for Naval Air Station Lemoore (NASL) as the squadron deactivated after more than seven years of training F-35C pilots and Sailors and Marines. Nellis Air Force Base has released video showing the first flight of the F-16C fighter jet painted in a unique digital pixelated camouflage paint scheme that mimics Russia’s next-generation Su-57 jets. The fighter jet, called the Ghost and assigned to the U.S. Air Force’s 64th Aggressor Squadron, is specifically painted to “realistically simulate” air combat against probable enemies. According to The Aviation Geek Club , the Ghost project started on Apr. 22 once the F-16 was towed into the corrosion shop from Viper Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU). With a seven-man team on days and a six-man team on swings for M1, the jet was finished in just under one month. Once the jet was finished, it was towed back to Viper AMU and back in the hands of its crew chief. The design was chosen by a poll held by Brig. Gen. The Pacific Air Forces announced that U.S. airmen in partnership with their Australian counterparts have conducted bilateral flying operations during “phenomenal” Diamond Storm exercise. The U.S. Air Force has deployed one squadron of F-35A Lightning II fighter jets, Airmen, and associated equipment to Aviano Air Base, Italy, from the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings, at Hill AFB, Utah, to participate in exercises and conduct training with other Europe-based aircraft as part of a Theater Security Package. Funded through the European Deterrence Initiative, the TSP provides a more robust U.S. military rotational presence in the European theater capable of deterring adversaries and assuring partners and allies of U.S. commitment to regional security. The F-35s and members of the 421st and 466th Fighter Squadrons arrived at Aviano AB, May 24 and will remain in Europe for several weeks. The U.S. Department of State has approved a possible $80 million Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the United Arab Emirates of a further batch of RQ-21A Blackjack unmanned aerial surveillance system, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a 24 May statement. Mission command is the Army’s philosophy of command and a warfighting function that promotes freedom and speed of action. It combines the centralized intent from the commander with the decentralized execution of subordinate commanders, who then decide how best to achieve the commander’s objectives. In executing mission command, commanders must have a broad perspective, understanding and knowledge of activities throughout the operational area. Commanders, while clearly relaying their intent, must also trust their teams to execute. Raytheon Co., Tucson, Arizona, has been awarded a $355,493,640 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for AGM-88B High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM)/Replacement Exchange In-Kind (REIK) for HARM Control Section Modification (HCSM).
